Somehow the beach finds its way
into every fold and recess of the head of lettuce,
bugchewed, limp with weather,
which you bought for dinner
from the farmers market.
This sand in my mouth
takes me to our old hot home;
I see the imps cavorting there
and wonder how their forks can
from time to time still reach me.
